Jim
Marsh
Jim Marsh was born in 1933 and spent his early years in
Portpatrick where he attended the local primary
school. His links with Portpatrick span five generations. After early
retirement in 1991 Jim concentrated on
his art. He now has a studio in the hamlet of 'Clachan of Campsie' at the
foot of the Campsie fells. Commissions are undertaken.
Judith La Trobe
Judith La Trobe moved to Stranraer in 1975 from Sussex. Fascinated by
British wild orchids she found and
painted some fifty of them in watercolour. After retiring in 1997 she took
a course in botanical illustration
at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens. In 2002 she was awarded a silver medal by
the R.H.S. for a collection of
Chilean plants from Logan Botanic Garden.
Amanda
Murray
Amanda was born in Dumfriesshire and studied photography in Edinburgh
before moving to Galloway. The light and landscape of Galloway inspire
Amanda's work and her love of the countryside is reflected in her
paintings. She exhibits locally and overseas, including the USA and
Norway.
Sandra Pratt D.A.
Sandra studied at the Glasgow School of Art and went on to teach in
Glasgow before moving to Ayrshire
and the Carrick Academy. She runs workshops throughout the year at her
studio in Maidens. She has also
illustrated children's books by the late James Drummond. Working mainly in
watercolours and inks, her work
is mostly figuartive. Sandra has exhibited widely. Her picture features
the view from John Rennie's Cree
bridge (built 1813) at Newton Stewart.
Pat Ross
Pat studied at the Glasgow School of Art from
1964 - 1968. She has completed
numerous pastel commissions of children and animals. Her work has included
a series of famous golfers for
the Clubhouse of the prestigious Turnberry Hotel in Ayrshire. She has
exhibited widely and is happy to
accept commissions.
Jan Ferguson
Jan lives and works from her home in Toward, Argyll, Scotland. She is a
self-taught watercolour artist who
specialises in detailed paintings of wildlife and domestic animals. Jan's
work is sought after by galleries and
collectors throughout the United Kingdom and overseas. She accepts
commissions.
William Neal
William studied at the Guildford School of Art from 1964-67. Over the
years his work has acheived
worldwide recognition, with million-selling album cover paintings for rock
bands in the 1970's, notably
'Pictures At An Exhibition' and 'Tarkus' for Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Today
his work is known for painting
the Galloway landscape, often by moonlight. To date he has sold over 5,000
limited edition prints. His own
website contains new work and a
retrospective of his career to date.
Rosemary E. Wells
Rosemary was born in the Mull of Kintyre and studied piano at the Royal
Scottish Academy of Music before
turning to painting. She now lives in the Rhinns of Galloway where she
adores growing potatoes and roses.
Kathy Scrivens
Kathy studied at the Rochdale College of Art before gaining a first class
B.A.Honours degree in Fine Art &
Sculpture at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. After obtaining a teaching degree at
Liverpool University she taught
art and Design before taking up silk painting. She moved to Galloway in
1990 and lived on the Mull of
Galloway for ten years. For the past twenty years she has produced silk
scarves, paintings and cushions
with Celtic imagery as the main inspiration for her work.
Maureen M. Briggs
Born in Dumfries, Maureen attended Kirkudbright Academy and the Glasgow
School of Art, graduating in
1972. Her work lies in two areas; studies of farm animals in the Galloway
landscape, and purely decorative
works featuring cats. Maureen runs The High Street Gallery in Kirkudbright
with her partner Richard Ross,
where they sell the work of Scottish artists from the 19th - 21st century.
William McLean Kerr
William has been painting and drawing for over thirty years. He has held
solo exhibitions at the MacLauring
Gallery in Ayr and the Dick Institute in kilmarnock. His commissioned work
covers a wide range of subjects
in different mediums. His work hangs in private and corporate collections
as far apart as Australia,
America, Glasgow & Stranraer.
Ronnie Russell
A native of Aberdeen and Troon, Ronnie, a trained textile designer, is now
a full time artist, illustrator and
cartoonist. As a painter he specialises in watercolours and acrylics with
a subject matter ranging from
landscapes to floral works. His personal cartoon character greetings cards
are very popular.
Frank Colclough
Frank's work is featured in several galleries throughout Scotland, and is
now also appearing in English
galleries. He has been exhibited by the major Scottish societies including
the R.S.A., R.S.W. and R.G.I. His
early works were in watercolour, but over the past few years he has worked
in acrylics and oils too. His
work mainly reflects views of the west coast of Scotland and colourful
still life studies.
Mansel Dickson Crighton
Mansel studied drawing and painting at Dundee School of Art, graduating in
1951. He came to Stranraer as
Principal Teacher in Art at Stranraer Academy and became assistant Rector
in 1975. Since retiring, Mansel
has painted landscapes in oil of Galloway and Angus. He presently exhibits
locally and with the Galloway
Artists Group.
Jan Holak
Trained at Leeds College of Art, Jan worked in the mediums of sculpture
and ceramics before training to
become an Art Teacher. She has taught at many schools in Scotland before
ending her career as Principal
Teacher of Art at Stranraer Academy (the second of our artists to hold the
post). Her work has been
exhibited throughout Britain and the U.S.A.
Martin
Collie
Martin is a cabinet maker living and working near Newton Stewart. He
attended Croyden College of Art intending to study architecture before
deciding to persue his love of wood work which has been his occupation
ever sincce. Throughout his working life he has painted whenever other
demands would allow.
Graham
Bradshaw
Graham began his career in painting after leaving landscape gardening in
1976. He began by painting horse and dog portraits first locally, and then
nationally. In 1985 he introduced his work to the Royal Society for the
Protection of Birds who from that time have published numerous greetings
cards and in 1991 a calendar featuring his work.
